What is National Night Out 2021? America’s night out against crime, is Tuesday, 8/3/2021. This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
The City of Charlotte has supported National Night Out for over 25 years. This year there are more than 70 events happening throughout Charlotte-Mecklenburg. During that time, neighborhoods have organized activities such as block parties, cookouts, porch sit-ins and ice cream socials to demonstrate their support of “no tolerance” for crime. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) is committed to having a presence at each NNO event registered with the City.
In observation of National Night Out, CMPD asks you to leave your porch light on from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. The porch light is a symbol of alertness and awareness; it makes your neighbors and friends feel welcome. Participation is not limited to leaving your porch light only on August 3rd. CMPD also ask that you take time to get to know your neighbors better.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Come meet your neighbors for music, food and fun, and to celebrate National Night Out!
6:30 – 8:00pm at Dudley cul-de-sac near Kistler.
Bring your own chairs & a side dish to share!
Special guests: Officer Padgett – CMPD, John Autry – Charlotte City Council.
The introduction of National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. NATW’s National Night Out program culminates annually, on the first Tuesday of August. The traditional “lights on” campaign and symbolic front porch vigils turned in to a celebration across America with various events and activities including, but not limited to, block demonstrations and seminars, in effort to heighten awareness, and enhance community relations.
