What is National Night Out 2021? America’s night out against crime, is Tuesday, 8/3/2021. This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

The City of Charlotte has supported National Night Out for over 25 years. This year there are more than 70 events happening throughout Charlotte-Mecklenburg. During that time, neighborhoods have organized activities such as block parties, cookouts, porch sit-ins and ice cream socials to demonstrate their support of “no tolerance” for crime. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) is committed to having a presence at each NNO event registered with the City.

In observation of National Night Out, CMPD asks you to leave your porch light on from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. The porch light is a symbol of alertness and awareness; it makes your neighbors and friends feel welcome. Participation is not limited to leaving your porch light only on August 3rd. CMPD also ask that you take time to get to know your neighbors better.

Artists MyLoan Dinh and Bunny Gregory will be installing the first of four crosswalk/sidewalk murals on Chippendale at Monroe.

Beginning this week, helpers are needed for…—painting under the direction of the artists,—helping to keep paint and brushes covered,—safety lookout, and—general help and cleanup.

***Ages 13 and up, please.***We’ve been keeping the art under wraps, but as a volunteer you’ll be among the very first to see the design!

Each crosswalk was inspired by people who live in this community and is completely different from the others. For more info on the project, visit you to our sponsors: David Krug & Associates, Inc., Edge City Brewery, Sherwin-Williams on Wendover

Who LOVES Ice Cream? Mark Your Calendar!

ALL Ages Welcome! SUNDAY, July 12th! The Amity Gardens Neighborhood Association typically hosts two ice cream sundae socials in the summer, but due to Covid-19 we are having to change it up a bit.

This July and August we will host a “walk by, drive by, run by, etc….” frozen treat on a stick event! The first one will be this SUNDAY, July 12th from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Stop by the front yard at 5362 Buena Vista Avenue and get a frozen treat from your neighborhood board members. We will have a a variety of frozen treats to chose from. We will be practicing social distancing so sadly there will no porch sitting and hanging out this time.
