Next Amity Gardens Neighborhood Ice Cream Sundae Social will be on Friday, July 13th. 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (drop-in)
5362 Buena Vista Avenue – 28205
We had so much fun at the last one that we decided to host a second ice cream sundae social.
We will have a special guest for this one. Christopher Lawing will be at the event for a book signing of his book “Charlotte: The Signs of the Queen City”.
As a native Charlottean who still calls his city home, Christopher Lawing has been photographing, documenting, and preserving the Queen City’s unique and historical signage since 2010. In October 2017, he released his book “Charlotte: The Signs of The Times” which organized this collection into a powerful storyline, allowing the public to take a rich and in-depth journey down memory lane. Recently, the project has taken an active role in the physical preservation of these signs.
Christopher was raised in a creativity-rich family environment, and one where tradition and history were instilled. His love of the Charlotte area and its history came from growing up with the stories of and memorabilia from the Kale-Lawing Office Outfitters Company which his great-grandfather started in 1925 in downtown Charlotte, at a time when office supply stores were rare. He attended Myers Park High School, where he fell in love with photography, and recently graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC in May 2015, where he polished his technique of storytelling.
Christopher’s work has been exhibited locally ranging from the Levine Museum of the New South, Festival In The Park, and Matthews ArtFest, to places farther away such as National Scout Jamborees and Industrial Designers Society of America conferences. His photography has appeared in The Charlotte Observer as well as in PARADE Magazine.
This event is sponsored by the Amity Gardens Neighborhood Association.
